The lipid bilayer structure in the stratum corneum can be disrupted after treatment with test compounds. This disruption can be favourable, in the case of encouraging greater penetration of drugs or cosmetic compounds through the skin for therapeutic and aesthetic effects.   

     Companies engaged in the development of transdermal/topical drugs or facial and body cosmetics can use the valuable data from this study to better understand the effects of the test compound, then facilitating the development of the final formulation.
